Completely agree. The entire process has become corporatized and homogenized.

This is SUCH a classic! Such a forward-thinking flick!

Just a head's up: There's ONE #SilentFilm on the TCM schedule this week and it's the Georges Méliès #SciFi classic "Le Voyage dans la Lune" AKA "A Trip to the Moon" (1902)🇫🇷 so set your DVRs for Friday afternoon

Microwave safe? It doesn't seem like a sensible place to keep your valuables.

Makes sense to me, especially for sensitive documents. They're kept safe under normal circumstances, but if you need to evacuate or flee rapidly, you can quickly destroy them with the microwaves so that they can't be found. 😅

THIS!!!!

It is a grave mistake to compare Musk to Hitler. Hitler, famously, never had access to nuclear weapons.

My personal life has been a world of turmoil lately, some of it a direct result of my well-intentioned, but poorly thought out decisions, much of it a by-product of the same. The "punishment" from a "loved one" has lingered long beyond its shelf-life and is no longer a response to hurt, but has become a pursuit of vengeance and retribution.

In the midst of this tempest, my 26 year-old daughter (the youngest of my 4 kids) the single mother of my 4 year-old grandson, has rearranged her half of a rented, modest duplex to accommodate me. She purchased a sleeper-sofa to make sure that I have a comfortable place to sleep. She stays up late dispensing wisdom that only someone three times her age should possess. She insists that in her house, there is no judgment, only love and peace...and she shows it.

When I tell her I don't deserve her, she assures me that, yes, I really do and follows it up by saying "Dad, you raised the children you would one day need, whether you realized it or not."

This woman, my "little girl", is changing my life, rearranging my thinking, and is bringing me out of a dark place into a place of promise and relief. I pray you all have someone in your life like her. We are blessed if we do.

The world is sliding into the abyss, but for people like her. She wags her finger at the tumult and declares "Not on my watch."

I love you more than I can put into words, AGB. You have saved my life. Thank you.

This seems to be the right thing to do...

Linux Mint for the win!

Wondering what OS to use on my laptop since Windows is going the direction of enforced AI hell. Just discovered Copilot force-installed on my Win 10 machine. Not happy. Uninstalled but don’t trust it.

Do I go with Linux? I have a bit of experience with it already.

I still need to be able to use MS Office docs and OneNote for my university lecture notes. 🤔 Plus MS Teams for my uni. None of these are optional.

Also: Zoom, Zotero, Steam, Claro accessibility software… and maybe more.

Let this sink in....

Bill Clinton banned assault weapons in 1994; mass shootings dropped by 43%.

George W. Bush and the GOP let the assault weapons ban expire in 2004; mass shootings increased by 245%.

These numbers tell the whole story.

Thank you, Kind Sir!!!

I've been busy today despite my best efforts not to be. Just stopping by to say hello and remind you to be kind to yourself today. You have to take care of yourself, after all you're the only one of you that we have.

And on Dr. King's day, no less....sigh...

Annoying to be a student of history right now.

A populist leader coming to power on the heels of crushing inflation. One who blames the country’s problems on a minority ethnic group he rounds up in detention centers while promising to invade neighboring countries and attempting to compromise the major forms of mass media. All sounds familiar.

History doesn’t repeat but it sure does rhyme.

Of course, my son sent this to me. Laughing so hard that I was just asked why the bed is shaking so much...

I've been doing a few watch parties on bluesky and I just don't like it at all. Everytime I got to like or respond to a comment it refreshes and ends up opening another window I didn't want to see. This site is so superior for these events. #FridayThrillerClub

I had forgotten about PCLOS. It was quite capable, but honestly, the support and attention that Mint gets made all the difference for me.

I've been using it for more than a decade now. Before that I spent about a year using Bodhi Linux, and PCLOS for several years before that. My first Linux love was Mandrake which morphed into Mandriva. I moved on when I realized that the company behind the distro was about the become a floater.

Linux Mint has been my daily driver for nearly a decade now. Once I got it installed, I never looked back. Good to see it getting some love!

It looks as if the Xfce edition of this will be my new OS for a while. I'm currently running Linux Mint 20 Ulyana, which will reach EOL in April, so 22.1 here I come: Linux Mint 22.1 is primed and ready for release - and I'm excited zdnet.com/article/linux-mint-2…

Want a cabinet position? If you are pretty, famous, or rich, you're in a good position. If you are average, unknown, or poor, forget about it. . . .Even if you are the most qualified. . .or even highly qualified.

The Fine Print

Shamelessly "borrowed" from @pourmecoffee on the former birdsite. I couldn’t improve on it, so I didn't try.

I'm @PrivacyMatters and I approved this message.

Below is the @PrivacyMatters fine print and master inventory of canned responses for resolution of recurring online disputes. Feel free to reference these yourself at this location should the need arise.

1. It is solely your responsibility to find the hilarity. No humor explanations.

2. Please tell me more about how I might use my time and talent to perfectly match your unique sensibilities!

3. I note your assertion of my (moral) (intellectual) (physical) inferiority.

4. I acknowledge your attempt at a (clever) (devastating) (hilarious) insult.

5. I recognize your effort to improve upon my original idea (from an opposing ideological view) (with a slightly different twist).

6. I am willing to stipulate that you are a very big deal online.

7. I acknowledge your supposedly more (nuanced) (intellectually rigorous) (fancy-sounding) take on my short post.

8. I understand you are going to (block) (unfollow) (block/unfollow) me for righteous reasons.

9. I recognize the unfathomable injustice of my insignificant voice drowning out the singular wisdom of yours.

10. Thank you for praying for me.

11. I accept that my (candidate) (idea) (team) lost a contested outcome which you now assert as complete vindication of your superiority over me.

12. Thank you for the correction of a trivial (spelling) (grammatical) (typing) (semantic) error which did not obscure the point of the post.

13. I ackowledge your extrapolation of personal preference into a blanket judgment of objective value.

14. I appreciate your candor, but it is none of my business what you think of me.

15. Thanks for (correcting) (criticizing) (dismissing) my subjective interpretation of something by offering up your own as definitive.

16. I confess to the exaggeration you identified. This technique is sometimes used in humor.

17. I acknowledge that you or someone (blogged) (posted) the same or similar thing before me. Time constraints make it difficult for me to double-check the entire Internet before posting something. True story: sometimes more than one person thinks of a thing! I don’t ever knowingly steal stuff, period. (Except, of course, for this list!)

18. I accept your (declaration of victory) (accusation of cowardice) over my refusal to (engage) (debate) (argue) with you.

19. I am in receipt of your unsolicited complaint about the relative (humor) (interest) (value) of a particular post.

20. I instantly and irreversibly mute/block based on @replies I find even slightly annoying. Yes, it’s selfish. Yes, it’s about me. That’s the whole point. You could very well be “right.” I just don’t care. I don’t want to hear it. I have no patience for conflict junkies or annoying people polluting my stream. I follow hundreds of accounts with views that challenge my own. I make and maintain lists for just that purpose. However, I don’t want to debate online. I don’t want to trade clever put-downs. I don’t want to go back and forth trying to get the last word. I don’t like to be trolled, nitpicked, insulted or bothered. If I happen to see something annoying, I immediately mute/block. This is a personal account. You’re not paying for it. Shocking: I don’t like to get hassled, and will mute/blocked to avoid it. I’m not the guy to satisfy your need for epic battles, flame wars, or online validation. There are plenty of people itching for a fight, just not me. Go be annoying, rude, combative or your positive spin on those things somewhere else. I will ruthlessly curate my online experience to selfishly satisfy my own sensibilities and make it fun for me, period.

21. I don’t reply a lot, but I only have so much Fediverse time and believe the best contribution I can make is to attempt some smart, funny and/or interesting original content — so that’s what I try to do. I appreciate all reposts and mentions, but If you are into keeping score, demanding a follow, interaction, insisting on help for your cause, negotiating mentions and such — this is probably not the feed for you. I want to focus my energy on trying to do something well: creating an original funny and/or interesting feed while being highly disciplined about the uncompensated time I spend online. If you don’t like that, unfollow. I don’t want to defend or discuss it.

22. I sense my writing displeases you. I suggest not reading it.

Such an amazing cast....everyone on this show was simple unreal in their roles.

It's a little late for me but I may watch on my own. Such a great show. I'm glad it's working well for the watch party. #FugitiveTV63 #Catsistu

We watched this ALLLLL the time when I was younger. Still holds up well!!!

We started watching Taxi last week at the Friday #Catitstu(5:15 P ET). I was wooried it may move a little too fast for a watch party, but it's working well and the episodes are super. It's free on plutotv and w/subscription on paramount+ if you're interested/available. #FugitiveTV63

This came out about the time The Martian movie hit cinemas...still a favorite!

My favorite book ever. And the movie is stellar!

This film was nominated for 7 Oscar's, including picture, actor and screenplay but received no statues. This is my first viewing. I like Matt Damon. #FridayThrillerClub

“Um.” I paused to think. “I’m not sure,” I said.
